All personal trainers at the Student Wellness Centre hold top nationally accredited Personal Training certifications. All of our trainers are also certified in First Aid/CPR/AED. Karen Nixon-Carroll, FHP, CSEP-CPT, OFC-TFL


Karen is a graduate of Fitness and Health Promotion at Fanshawe College and is a certified personal trainer, group exercise instructor and nutrition coach and holds these designations with several organizations (CSEP, Precision Nutrition, OFC, YMCA, MOSSA, NAFC, CFP). She holds specialty certifications in Insanity, Turbo-Kick, Fitness Kick-Boxing, TRX, BOSU, Kettlebell, Zumba, Group Power, Group Blast, Group Active, Yoga Fitness, and Exercise is Medicine Canada. She has also done extensive training in ViPr, cardio boxing and athletic conditioning. Karen has been teaching Group ex since 1998 and personal training since 2002 and has worked with a variety of athletes, shift workers, office employees, laborers, students, pre/post-natal, seniors and kids. Karen is certified as a Trainer of Fitness Leaders for Ontario Fitness Council, accredited under the National Fitness Leaders Alliance of Canada and a member of the International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals. This allows her to be able to train, evaluate and certify fitness leaders in personal training and group exercise. Karen loves the challenge of helping an athlete cross-train as equally as working with someone new to exercise. She has had great success with clients looking to lose weight and make a lifestyle change. Karen has played soccer since she was 4, competes in running races, loves to dance, paint, play music on guitar and piano, sing and ride her bike. She is married and also has 2 little boys to chase after and motivate her to be in good health.

Avi Verma, FHP, CSEP-CPT
Avi graduated from the Fitness and Health Promotion program at Fanshawe College in 2017. He is a certified CSEP Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. Avi enjoys working with beginner clients and the general population. He specializes in weight loss training plan, resistance training, strength and conditioning coaching. He is an accomplished Group Exercise Instructor and loves teaching spin classes, full body circuits, and kickboxing! Avi has experience working with the Canadian Paralympic wheelchair rugby team on strength training and stretching. Avi’s goals for his clients are helping them develop and achieve a healthy lifestyle. One of Avi’s key philosophies about personal training and fitness in general is that “Fitness is not about being better than someone else, it’s about being better than you used to be”.

Lukas Migotto, FHP, CSEP-CPT, OFC Instructor, YMCA Instructor
Lukas graduated from the Fitness and Health Promotion Program at Fanshawe College in 2017, and is a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer, group exercise instructor and nutrition coach. He is eager to work with all clients and specializes in helping individuals achieve their weight loss goals, build muscle or improve muscular strength. Lukas is highly motivated to help Wellness Centre members to develop positive lifestyle habits and will create a personalized program to allow them to achieve their fitness and health goals. When not lifting heavy things and putting them down, Lukas enjoys spending time with friends, making people laugh, watching movies and listening to music.

Ashlee Wilhelm – BSc – HK, CSEP CEP
Ashlee graduated from the University of Guelph in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science, Honours in Human Kinetics. She then went on to further her education at Niagara College by enrolling in a graduate certificate program in Exercise Science for Health and Performance. Upon completion of this program Ashlee challenged CSEP’s Certified Exercise Physiologist examination and became certified. Growing up she was a competitive swimmer and also participated in intermural sports including volleyball, basketball and dodgeball. Ashlee enjoys working with clients from all walks of life and specializes in strength and interval training, as well as circuit training. Ashlee believes in the necessity for living a healthy active lifestyle and is excited to share this knowledge with future clients in order to help them achieve their goals. Outside of the gym she enjoys spending time with family and friends and being outdoors.

Lucas Fernandino, B.Sc Phys.Ed., Ex. Phys. PG Dip., FHP 2nd yr.
Lucas is currently enrolled in Fitness and Health Promotion at Fanshawe College and he has his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical education as well as a post-grad diploma in Physiology of exercise from the Universitario de Belo Hoizonte in Brazil. He has worked as a personal trainer since 2005 and he has been playing a coaching soccer for many years. Lucas is a certified Cross-fit coach and he is very passionate about technique and safety when training. He is well versed and realistic when it comes to healthy eating and he will make sure you are working with a well-rounded program. Lucas and his wife love training together and they are expecting a baby very soon!

Sarah King, FHP, CSEP-CPT, R.Kin
Sarah is a Certified personal trainer through the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, a Registered Kinesiologist through the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario, certified in Functional Movement Screen Level 1 and has completed her Level 2 Nutrition Coaching certification with Precision Nutrition. After graduating Fanshawe College with a Fitness and Health promotion diploma Sarah decided to further her education by obtaining an Bachelor of Arts Honors Specialization Degree in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario. Sarah’s specialties include strength training, sport conditioning/training and nutrition coaching. She also enjoys working with beginner clients to develop positive lifestyle habits. Sarah currently plays competitive soccer, enjoys being outdoors, and hiking with her dog

Anique Daley, FHP, CSEP-CPT 


Anique is a Fitness and Health promotion graduate from Fanshawe College and holds her CSEP-Certified Personal Trainer certification. She has always been passionate about fitness and health and is delighted to share that with you. Anique wants to help clients reach their goal and maintain their fitness level. She is a former member of the Fanshawe Women’s Varsity Basketball team, and has had the opportunity to apply her knowledge to high level training programs. She would love to share her expertise with clients of all different fitness level. Anique is a fun and energetic individual that will push you to your limits. In her spare time Anique enjoys the outdoors, rock climbing, playing sports, and stays in tip top shape through regular training.

Kelly Lepoivre, Kin BA, CSEP-CEP, ACSM-GEI/CEP


Being in the field of exercise conditioning for over 15 years, Kelly thoroughly enjoys working with diverse exercise conditions; from severely injured (amputees), to Olympic athletes she has done it all. Kelly holds several certifications that include, group exercise, spinning, Fitness Kickboxing (Level 1&2) ViPR, TRX (STC, GTC, FTC), FMS, Yoga (Hatha, Hybrid Flow, Restorative), Aqua Therapy and Aqua Conditioning, OBIA (Brain Injury Exercise Training). Kelly’s passion lies in helping other achieve their health and wellness goals and will do so by utilizing the tools from personal experience and vast repertoire of certifications. In addition to seeing Kelly be heavily involved in the Fitness World, you can also see her in the community, volunteering with the Special Olympics as a trainer to the soccer and powerlifting teams, and Youth spiritual/recreation programming. On her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, participating in recreational sports (Softball, Volleyball, , and dedicating time for her personal growth through continuous training and developing.
